We were sort of stuck in a rut, felt very comfortable and didn’t have a lot of change. We needed to increase our communication and find a new way to operate. We had been in business for over 30 years. I’m a third-generation family owner and what worked 30-35 years ago isn’t going to work today. One of the first lessons we learned from Doug was balance of life and time. It’s amazing how we were able to carve out a few hours each week to work on our business. The best part about working with Coach Doug was being held accountable. It was very easy for me, in my work life to put things on the back burner. In the hospitality industry, there’s always something going on, 24 hours a day. It’s easy to get sucked into operations. As we worked with Doug each week, we set goals. There was an expectation to complete those goals and it gave us a good sense of accountability. I’ve been able to organize myself and share these principles with my team. The results are there.
